What does it say, in plain words?
It bans the reproduction, breeding and sale of companion animals throughout Colombia, three years after the law enters into force.
Who does it apply to?
Everyone in Colombia, with no exceptions:
- Households and families.
- Foundations and shelters.
- The Armed Forces and National Police (detection, rescue and security dogs).
- Assistance and medical service dog foundations (guide, alert, support dogs).
- Responsible breeders and breed preservationists, pet shops and the entire supply chain.
All companion species
Article 3 of the bill defines companion animals as «such as dogs and cats, among others». The ban is not limited to dogs and cats.
Our position
ZooGremial- Sociedad Proanimal de Colombia calls for the complete removal of the additional article and proposes substantive amendments to the remaining articles to achieve technical, verifiable and enforceable regulation.
